“Nightcrawler” by Madrigals for Mongrels

"Nightcrawler" is a noir-drenched descent into the mind of a modern-day trickster—part art thief, part hacker, part financial arsonist. The lyrics trace the evolution of an elusive antihero, born in poetic shadows ("a ski mask on and a 1st edition leather Rimbaud") and raised on cultural sleight-of-hand, from Parisian galleries to encrypted code in Glasgow and back again through global markets.

At its core, the song is about greed, power, and moral erosion, told with sardonic swagger and literary flair. The nightcrawler begins as a charming “gentleman thief” pulling off high-society heists with finesse—slipping through art museums and fencing Modigliani and Matisse like contraband. But the stakes rise fast: from clickbait cybercrime and blockchain fraud to high-frequency financial manipulation, the crimes become more abstract and devastating.

Each verse ratchets up the stakes and detachment. The chorus—"I'm gonna steal it when the time is right... the nightcrawler strikes again"—becomes a mantra of cool inevitability, underscoring the impunity of someone who plays systems better than anyone trying to regulate them.

By the end, the protagonist is no longer stealing paintings or credit cards—he's trading futures, burning economies, and mocking the divine. The final lines—“I’ll steal the wings of every cloud in sight”—are a chilling, mythic endnote: a thief who transcends earthly crime to plunder even the heavens.

Madrigals for Mongrels Unleash Politically Charged Single “Christian Graffiti”

A Fierce Musical Critique of Power and Propaganda in America

Madrigals for Mongrels, the cutting-edge rock project of Bryan Clark, announces the release of their electrifying debut single, "Christian Graffiti," a provocative anthem that takes aim at the bad actors currently in positions of power in the U.S.

Blending the sophisticated songwriting of Steely Dan, the grandiose theatricality of Muse, and the poetic bite of Elvis Costello and Bob Dylan, "Christian Graffiti" is both a musical tour de force and a lyrical call to arms. With searing guitars, intricate arrangements, and razor-sharp lyricism, the track questions the distortion of history, the weaponization of faith, and the manipulation of public sentiment in modern America.

“This song is about reclaiming language and truth from those who twist it for control,” says Clark. “‘Christian Graffiti’ flips the script on propaganda, offering a counter-narrative that insists love isn’t treason and truth isn’t a crime.”
